What’s Here

Some folk use icons in their organizers to help with visual cuing. This page contains a number of folks approaches to organizer iconography.

‘Her Doing’ Ideas / Suggestions

Attribution

Attribution goes to Her Doing. They sent a great breakdown on how they use icons and emoji to help organize notes, journal entries and more. This approach allows for easier searches and visualization of information.

The below is a lightly edited transcript of the information they provided and approved for publishing.

General Icons

On icons, I have all the ones in my journal template (๐Ÿ’› for small good things, etc.), but I also have a list that can be scattered anywhere and I might want to find later, or I want to keep track of.

Such as ๐ŸŒฟ Dates [redacted] cut the lawn (so I know when, how often, and what the final total will be) ๐Ÿ“™ Book recommendations ๐Ÿ“š Book finished. ๐Ÿ˜Š ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Ate at least one good meal ๐Ÿ‘ฃ Walked for at least fifteen minutes ๐Ÿ‹๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ Exercised (other than walking) at least fifteen minutes ๐Ÿค Reached out to at least one other person ๐Ÿ“ Do one thing your future self will thank you for ๐Ÿ“– Read for at least fifteen minutes ๐Ÿ“ป Listened to a podcast ๐Ÿค” Studied at least fifteen minutes ๐Ÿ“ฏ Played with a hobby for at least fifteen minutes ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Wrote for at least fifteen minutes ๐Ÿชฅ Basic personal hygiene ๐Ÿงน Basic house hygiene ๐ŸŒœ Lights out by 10.00 pm

(I have never accomplished all of these in one day. I’m not sure I have ever accomplished half in one day. Some I have never accomplished. But it is still useful to be aware of just how much I am or am not doing something. ๐Ÿ˜„)

Journal Icons

My daily journal has sections: ๐Ÿ’› Small good things at the very top. ๐Ÿฅฐ ๐Ÿ’ญ Daily thoughts - whatever is going on / I want to write about. ๐Ÿ’ก Daily inspiration - quotes, ideas, book snippets - anything that made me stop and think, and especially that I will want to remember and/or build on ๐ŸŒฑ Story ideas - I write, so whenever I have an idea, I jot down here as quickly as I can, plus any details, backstory, possible directions it can take, whatever. It’s nice for me to know when I had the idea and possibly what inspired it. This is only meant to be a paragraph or so. Sometimes I will write two or three pages - when that happens, I copy & paste it into a document, delete everything but the first paragraph (so I have a basic idea) and link to the full document. This is supposed to be my journal, so just the idea is enough - but I haven’t lost anything. ๐Ÿ› I pray for people & this is where I record for whom and for what (and updates and answers)

Additional Thoughts

I really wanted to make them easy to understand and remember - and some were tricky to develop - reading, book recommendations, and books finished, for example!

I already had the seedling for my story ideas and then months later the lawn-mowing thing came up & I had to keep track of that - and there is no lawn mower icon. ๐Ÿ˜„

Walking is what I am most likely to do - but I wanted another for anything else, whether inside (like yoga) or outside (swimming or going to a gym), so I wanted to acknowledge / keep track of both.

(I have never done yoga, nor am I a gym member - I am trying to think ahead to future needs & scenarios.)

Some of the others - reading, writing, playing with a hobby, listening to a podcast - these were all things that make up a good day for me. If I haven’t done one or two, then hopefully it was because I had a good day filled with the others.

They are NOT a goal to reach - as I said, I have never done all of these in one day, and rarely even half. It’s more of a record of the good ways I spend my days - kind of like your rose/thorn/bud idea.

And maybe it will change seasonally. Maybe in summer I will spend my days walking and in winter with yoga. Or I’ll know if I spent a lot of time listening to podcasts, maybe it was a time I didn’t have the spoons / strength to do anything else - and that’s okay. I am still finding ways to be as active physically and mentally as I can be. ๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿฅฐ
